Exterior Style and Interior Design

With funky accents and a slick design, the new Kona is certainly a looker. Plenty of body cladding around the wheel wells, a striking front grille and a lot more adds a unique personality to this sub-compact crossover, and that continues when you settle in behind the wheel. The standard and available features are easy to access and use from the driver's seat, while the 19 cubic feet of cargo room inside is a great bonus for such a small crossover. That cargo area is made even larger thanks to the fold-down rear seats, which when in place for people, delivers a spacious and comfortable setup. Overall, the design of the Kona gives you a unique ride for all your travels around the Charlotte and Matthews areas.

Safety and Technology

As you'd expect to find with any of the new Hyundai cars and crossovers we feature for Huntersville and Monroe area drivers, the new Kona is loaded with features. With four trim levels to choose from, the Kona provides you with several options. The base level sets you up nicely with tech like a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a 7-inch touchscreen control center, smartphone integration and more. Moving up to higher trims adds options like a sunroof, leather upholstery, LED headlights and several other features you'll want to consider.

For safety, you'll have blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert available in the SEL trim (the next level up from the base edition), and an optional suite that includes forward collision warning and mitigation, lane keeping assist, a driver attention monitor and automatic high beams, all of which is standard on the Ultimate trim, but can be added to the SEL.

Performance and Capabilities

Two available engines with the Kona give you options based on your desired driving experience. The SE and SEL trims have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which delivers 147 horsepower and earns you up to 33 highway mpg with FWD, while that gets knocked down to 30 highway mpg when you choose AWD. The next engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four, which delivers 175 horsepower and 32 mpg on the highway with FWD. As you can tell, adding AWD will knock back your fuel efficiency, and since we don't experience much snow or ice here in the Gastonia and Mooresville areas, the FWD setup will be your best bet.

There's a lot to be said about the funky and fresh new Hyundai Kona, but we recommend you visit us from Gastonia or Charlotte for a closer look and to try it out for yourself. Find your way on over to Modern Hyundai of Concord and we'll help you pick out the right kind of Kona edition for you to test drive. From there, we'll go over your new Hyundai leasing or loan options so you can make sure the perfect setup of the Kona works for your budget.
